The S 400 d uses a 2,925 cc straight-six diesel with 330 PS and a mighty 700 Nm, served by the 9G-TRONIC automatic and 4MATIC all-wheel drive. It reaches 100 km/h in 5.4 seconds, with the composure expected of a flagship.

The S-Class name was first used officially in 1972 with the W116 and has been the brand's standard-bearer ever since: the W126 introduced a driver's airbag in December 1980. The W223 generation was unveiled on 2 September 2020.
