Jaguar E-Type
Jaguar e-type 4.2 Roadster
An endless bonnet, a slender waist and curves that seem shaped by the wind: the E-Type Roadster has one of the most coveted silhouettes in motoring history. Roof down, the XK six sings with a full, husky voice and every mile feels like a film scene.
The 4.2-litre straight six works through a Jaguar-designed, all-synchromesh four-speed gearbox to the rear wheels. Independent rear suspension and disc brakes on all four wheels complete a remarkable package. This example dates from 1969.
Revealed on 15 March 1961, the E-Type gained the 4.2-litre engine in October 1964. In 1996 an E-Type roadster entered MoMA's permanent design collection, and in 2008 it topped the Daily Telegraph's list of the 100 most beautiful cars.
