Mercedes-Benz 280
Mercedes-Benz 280SL Pagoda
A manual gearbox, a straight-six that loves to rev and lines that never age: this 1968 280 SL is a Pagoda for those who like to drive with their own hands. Its metallic paint highlights the purity of a design that still stops conversations.
The 2,778 cc M130 engine sends 170 PS to the rear wheels through a four-speed manual, standard on the 280 SL; the optional ZF five-speed was ordered only 882 times. Every gearchange is a reminder of why one drives a classic.
In 1963, the W113's debut year, Eugen Böhringer won the 6,600 km Spa-Sofia-Liège rally in a modified 230 SL. In all, 48,912 Pagodas were built; the 280 SL stayed in production until 23 February 1971, when the R107 350 SL took over.
