Mini Cooper Monte Carlo - Speedwell
Small, cheeky and utterly irresistible, the Mini still raises smiles wherever it goes. This Cooper Monte Carlo bearing the Speedwell name recalls the years when the smallest car in the field took on giants.
Its 998 cc engine sits transversely and drives the front wheels through a four-speed manual gearbox, the layout that left 80% of the floorpan free for people and luggage. Speedwell, the tuning firm founded in 1957, had Graham Hill as its workshop foreman.
Designed by Alec Issigonis and launched in 1959 in response to the fuel shortage of the Suez Crisis, the Mini won the Monte Carlo Rally in 1964, 1965 and 1967.
